Dock Leveler Repair in Scranton

We repair, rebuild and replace mechanical, hydraulic and air-powered dock levelers for warehouses and receiving docks. The same small crew that inspects your leveler comes back to do the work, so nothing gets lost between the walkthrough and the repair.

A leveler that meets every trailer cleanly

A dock leveler takes a beating that most equipment never sees. Loaded forklifts cross it hundreds of times a shift, trailers arrive at different heights, and the lip has to land square on a bed that may be worn, wet or salted. When one part slips out of adjustment, the rest of the leveler starts to carry loads it was never meant to carry.

We work on pit-style mechanical levelers with pull chains and springs, hydraulic units with push-button controls, air-bag levelers and edge-of-dock plates. Some jobs are a spring adjustment and new hinge pins. Others call for a rebuilt lip, a cylinder replacement or a new unit set into the existing pit.

Our crew is small on purpose. The technician who looks at your leveler is the one who orders the parts and does the repair, so the details from the first visit carry through to the finished work.

What our dock leveler work covers

Lip and hinge repair

We replace worn hinge pins and tubes, straighten or rebuild bent lips, and reset the lip so it extends fully and lays flat on the trailer bed.

Spring and hold-down service

On mechanical levelers we adjust or replace counterbalance springs and repair hold-down mechanisms, so the deck rises with control and stays where it is walked down.

Hydraulic system repair

We trace leaks, replace cylinders, seals, hoses and power units, and check the velocity fuse that stops the deck from dropping if a trailer pulls away early.

Deck and structural welding

Cracked deck plate, broken welds and fatigued support beams are cut out and repaired with matched steel, then ground clean so the surface stays even under forklift wheels.

Safety components

Toe guards, maintenance struts, lip keepers and dock bumpers are inspected and replaced where they are torn, missing or no longer doing their job.

Full leveler replacement

When a unit is past saving, we remove it and set a new leveler in the existing pit, sized to your trailer traffic and capacity needs.

Signs your dock leveler needs attention

  • The lip stops short

When the lip hangs halfway or springs back, the cause is often worn hinge pins, a weak lip spring or debris packed in the hinge. With only partial contact, the whole load rides on a narrow strip of the trailer floor.

  • The deck sinks or won't stay put

A hydraulic deck that settles while parked usually has a seal or cylinder on its way out. On a mechanical leveler, a deck that will not stay down typically means the hold-down is worn.

  • Forklifts jolt crossing over

A jolt as a forklift rolls from the dock onto the trailer suggests the lip is not lying flat. Each hit wears on the forklift, the freight and the leveler's welds.

  • Oil, cracks or debris in the pit

Cracked deck plate, oil beneath the leveler or debris packed around the frame each deserve an inspection before they leave a dock door out of service.

  • Damaged or missing bumpers

Without sound bumpers, trailers hit the leveler and the building head on, and over time that bends the lip and works the frame loose.

How a dock leveler repair runs

  1. 1

    On-site inspection

We walk the leveler with you, cycle it through its range and look under the deck with the maintenance strut set. You get photos of what we found and a plain answer on whether it should be repaired or replaced.

  2. 2

    Written estimate

You receive a line-item estimate listing parts, labor and anything else the job needs, so you can plan the work around your receiving schedule.

  3. 3

    Scheduled repair

We book the work for a time that keeps your other doors moving. The dock is blocked off, the deck is secured on its strut and the same crew from the inspection does the repair.

  4. 4

    Testing and handover

Before we leave, we run the leveler through full cycles, check lip contact on a trailer if one is available, clean the pit and show your team anything they should watch for.

What shapes the cost of dock leveler work

No two levelers age the same way, so we price from what we see on the inspection rather than a flat rate. Your written estimate shows each part and the labor behind it. These are the things that move the number most.

Type of leveler
Hydraulic and air-powered units have different parts and failure points than mechanical spring levelers, and parts for each vary in cost.
Extent of the damage
A spring adjustment and hinge pins is a short job. A cracked deck, bent lip or failed cylinder takes more steel, parts and hours.
Condition of the pit and frame
Winter road salt carried in on trailers can corrode the frame and pit edges. If the curb angle or concrete needs repair, that adds to the work.
Parts availability
Common components are easy to source. Older or discontinued levelers may need fabricated parts, which affects both cost and timing.
Repair or replace
When repair costs approach the price of a new unit, we tell you so and lay out both options side by side.

Dock leveler questions

Something not covered here? (570) 473-5427

Is it worth repairing an old dock leveler, or should we replace it?

It depends on the frame and deck. If the structure is sound, replacing springs, pins, seals or a lip can give a leveler many more years of service. If the deck is cracked in several places or the frame is badly corroded, a new unit is usually the better use of money, and we will say so.

Can you convert a mechanical leveler to hydraulic?

In many cases a new hydraulic leveler can be set into an existing mechanical pit, depending on pit size and condition. We measure the pit on the inspection and explain what fits before you decide.

Will the dock door be out of service during the repair?

Yes, that door is closed while we work, but only that one. We schedule around your receiving windows and keep the other doors clear so traffic can keep moving.

Do you service other equipment at the same dock?

We do. While we are on site we can look at the overhead door, the vehicle restraint and the seals around the opening. Many facilities fold levelers into a regular loading dock preventative maintenance plan so small wear is caught early.

Which towns do you cover?

We work across Scranton and nearby communities including Dunmore, Old Forge, Taylor, Moosic, Dickson City and Pittston. The Service Areas page lists the rest.
